How it works

The LM723 controls an external power stage to provide an adjustable DC output. Coarse and fine voltage controls make it easier to set a desired voltage, while the current adjustment limits the output current.

The archive labels the supply 0–35 V and 0–3 A. Those endpoints depend on the complete transformer, rectifier, pass-transistor, and auxiliary supply arrangement. They are design targets, not validated operating limits.

On the bench

Review mains isolation and enclosure construction before building. Test the regulator from a suitable isolated source, verify current limiting at low energy, and assess pass-transistor dissipation across the whole operating range.
